On Saturday, Creston celebrated its first Pride Fest in its 100 years of history.
Mountain Park Resort was packed full of vendors, volunteers, and attendees as the town celebrated the 2SLGBTQI+ community.
An artisan farmer’s market kicked off the event, with artists in and around the valley coming to show off their goods and pro-2SLGBTQI+ memorabilia.
Music played over the campground as the musicians set the mood for the happy occasion.
Despite the occasional remark from a passing vehicle, spirits were high among the volunteers.
Nikolas with OUTSpoken Creston and the Creston Pride Fest Committee says they were more than pleased with the turnout.
“It’s better than we pictured. We have more people and more vendors than we expected. Way more visitors,” said Nikolas.
They add the emotions were high leading up to the event.
“I think we’ve all cried four or five times at this point. We’ve had little squealy hugging fits and we’re all really heightened in emotions. But, it’s kind of paying off and we’re all starting to settle down.”
While giving their remarks, a driver in a passing vehicle leaned out and screamed some obscenities.
That would not bring down the mood.
“Everyone is ecstatic, beyond ecstatic. Everything we were nervous about hadn’t happened. We were nervous but I don’t think we’re feeling that right now.”
