A 71-year-old man is dead following a motorcycle collision on Highway 3A on Saturday, July 27.
RCMP say the man was traveling alone when he was unable to make a turn and went off the left side of the road near Twin Bays.
Despite being treated for his injuries on the scene, he was pronounced dead.
“Apparently, he went off-road, failed to navigate a corner in the highway, traveled off-road, and sustained serious injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.” says RCMP communications Corporal James Grandy.
The highway was closed for several hours.
This incident follows a startling number of fatalities on the roads around the Kootenays.
“Certainly we’re concerned about the increase in motor vehicle collisions, certainly motorcycle collisions. It seems like there appears to be an apparent increase.”
Grandy says they don’t have the exact stats yet but would like to remind drivers to be cautious.
“We just want people to be mindful, especially if they’re not used to driving specifically a motorcycle for some time. If they’re back into it after being away from it for a while, just keep in mind that the roads are sometimes tricky to navigate.”
