The Creston community is invited to come and celebrate 100 years of ice sports history of the town at this weekend’s ribbon cutting ceremony at the Creston & District Community Complex Johnny Bucyk Arena from 5pm.
Project Director Kala Hooker says its great to see the hard work come together and for the community to be able to enjoy and be proud of their hometown ice heroes.
“This project was inspired by Creston’s Centennial and it’s the 100 years of ice sports.” said Kala.
“The exhibit is going to contain stories, its going to be celebrating our ice sports heroes for the past 100 years and its going to be talking about some of the history of ice sports in the Creston Valley.”
“This isn’t just a trophy case; this is an actual exhibit.”
“There’s going to be lots of different pieces to look at, stories of interest, we’ve got memorabilia, we’ve got an old ice sharpening machine, we’ve got mannequins on display wearing hockey gear.”
“We’ve been putting the final touches on the exhibit this last week here and we’ve had community members approaching us and having a little sneak preview of what it’s looking like and saying that looks really amazing.”
“One person I was talking to just on Saturday said, you know, there’s very few faces here I don’t recognize. So, I’m hoping that our community members are going to see a little, if not something of themselves, a family member or friend, they’re going to see someone that they recognize in the exhibit.”
If you are inspired to get on the ice yourself following the event, there will be a public skate from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.
