Hope in Action: Facing Climate Challenges

November 16, 2024

The Creston Valley Climate Action Society is excited to announce the upcoming symposium, **”Hope in Action: Facing Climate Challenges,”** taking place on November 16, 2024, at Holy Cross Church Hall (128 16th Avenue North).

The day will begin with a keynote address from Seth Klein, a policy expert and climate activist, joining via Zoom. Local leaders Laura Francis and Robin Louie will speak in person, sharing their insights on addressing climate change through net-zero agriculture and land reconciliation.

The symposium will also feature hands-on workshops focusing on Indigenous knowledge, sustainable farming, forestry practices, and advocacy with elected officials. This pivotal event aims to inspire hope and action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Kootenays while fostering community among those committed to protecting our planet. Participants will leave with concrete strategies to combat climate change in their own lives and within the Creston Valley community.

The symposium is free to attend, with doors opening at 8 a.m. for registration and coffee. Lunch will be provided. An expo will feature local businesses, organizations and artisans who are making a difference for the planet here in the Kootenays.

Generous support for the event comes from the Creston Valley Community Foundation, Creston Community Forest, Energy Economics (sponsoring Seth Klein’s talk), Creston and District Credit Union, RE/MAX Discovery Real Estate, Save-On Foods, Wildsight Youth Climate Corps, and individual donors.
